“nothing brings me more happiness when someone i love knows my sweet spot.”

that’s what i thought when paul brought me this spam museum brochure as a omiyage (souvenir) from his annual football trip to minneapolis.

i like this sort of present. probably he came across this brochure somewhere and picked it up because he knows i’ll like this sort of thing.

(click the image to view close up)

this brochure for the austin (minnesota) spam museum promises hours of SPAMUSEMENT for the whole family. you can try out spam dishes, put on a lab coat and hairnet to make your own spam, and many other SPAMTASTIC exhibits. the whole brochure is written like that. it’s SPAMAZING! (sorry)

i’m very curious what’s in spam, exactly. i’ve never eaten it, or even opened a can. but everytime i walk down the spam aisle there’s a strong urge growing inside me to reach out and buy a can. but i can’t. i can eat a can of tuna, but a can of pork? that’s a whole new world, my friend. the catchy design always brings back the strong urge to just buy one and get it over with. my curiosity continues.

(click the image to view close up)

besides this new addition to my spam collection, i also own a mini spam cookbook. i found it at a indigo bookstore in kingston. there were bunch of them scattered in a sales wagon AS IF no one would want them.

this “spam the cookbook” is a SPAMALGAMATION of recipes: spam casserole, spam macaroni & cheese, spam clam chowder and spamusubi (sushi). basically just by adding a can of spam, an ordinary dish turns into (bam!) a spam dish! how magical. can you feel the power of spam?

well, someday when i finally have the guts to buy one and actually open it, at least i know what to do with it. i’ll make spam-takoyaki!

from the movie “ikiru (to live)” by director kurosawa akira.

this is my favorite scene of all time. the actor, shimura takashi, portrays watanabe, who works at a city office for thirty years without passion. everyday just passes without purpose. one day, he finds out that he has terminal stomach cancer and only six months to live. he regrets that he has wasted his life and decides to do something good for society in the time he has left. he is determined to help a group of working-class mothers get a playground built. without telling anybody that he has terminal cancer, he dies alone in the snowy playground…

i heard a rumour a couple years ago that there was a plan to remake ikiru, with tom hanks in shimura’s role. i hope that plan was trashed, because they are wasting their time.

if you haven’t seen the original, make sure you do.

freshly drawn this afternoon. it’s been awhile since i’ve drawn in vivid colours. i think i’m liking it.

the kanji on the milk carton says yuki-jirushi, which means snow brand. that’s a japanese milk company that got into huge trouble a few years ago when many people around osaka got food poisoning from their low fat milk. paul was one of the first cases. interestingly, paul and i both drank from the same milk carton that day, but only paul got food-poisoning. he was really sick. later on, two men from the milk company came to the door of our apartment and apologized. they bowed very deeply and gave us a box of expensive japanese sweets. i felt bad that these two men had to apologize even though they didn’t do anything wrong.

the case was a big scandal in japan. 14,780 people got sick. you can read more about it here.

my drawing has nothing to do with the food poisoning scandal. i just like the design of the milk carton, and i’m used to since we always used to drink snow brand milk (before). my brain is very weak, like 0.1% milk.

yes, wtf is correct. she beautifully doesn’t make any sense. why is she talking about a radiator? and he was cinnamon? all i know is she is passionate. the camera work and random piano are marvelous. at the end, someone bumps into the microphone, which adds a sweet touch of amauteurism. perfect. that was beautiful, precious.

i’ve already put this up on videosift.com, but i decided to push it little harder on my blog. currently this video has only received three upvotes (well, actually two votes since i voted for myself…sigh). i’m thankful not to get a downvote (yet). hopefully other members will find it amusing before it disappears into a black hole.

i can’t thank sharpeworld enough for finding such treasures. hurrah for public access TV!
